The end of 2011 was very friendly to outdoor portrait photographers in Atlanta with so many warm days and beautiful light. We could still comfortably photograph outdoors in November and December.

Stephanie and Jim hired our studio only for engagement portraits while still working on their wedding plans. We met on a nice December Sunday morning in downtown Roswell and then in the park near Roswell Mill.

A few portraits for Christmas cards with a Christmas tree in historic Roswell:

Our studio has been given an honor of photographing a large Indian wedding of Pinal and Keval that will be held in spring of 2012 in Los Angeles area, California. We had been planning their pre-wedding portrait session for months to get the best possible natural backgrounds and lighting, and to coordinate with the couple’s busy schedule.

In Georgia, the best colors for outdoor portrait sessions are usually in last few days of October and first ten days of November. We all were pretty impressed with what Mother Nature had ready for us at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithuania, GA, on November 10, 2011:

When Beth and Kevin hired us to photograph their wedding, they shared with us their engagement story and suggested to use Barnsley Gardens for their engagement portraits to remember their wonderful engagement experience. We happily agreed:

For Nicole and Morgan, the wedding started two days before the official date when we all met on the grounds of the LDS Temple for their wedding portraits.

On the wedding day, we completed formal portraits with families and the wonderful wedding party in almost 100 degree weather. It was great that everyone was so cooperative and remained positive despite the blistering heat.

The wedding also gave us an opportunity to visit another interesting and unique reception venue: the Atlanta National Golf Club. The staff at Atlanta National Golf Club thankfully lent our couple and the wedding party several golf carts to help traverse the grounds, allowing us to explore photo opportunities all over the course. This method of transportation proved to be an exciting treat.

We’d like to give a personal thank you to Morgan and Nicole for giving us a tour of their Temple. The Atlanta LDS Temple was open to the public for a few weeks after completion and before the re-dedication, and we were lucky enough to see inside. Thank you, it was a truly unique opportunity.

We were happy to return to the Berry College campus on this day as we could revisit some of the most prominent and photographic landmarks: the old Gate of Opportunity and the Ford Complex, for portraits, Frost Chapel, for the ceremony, and the WinShape Retreat, for the reception. The Georgia weather was very temperamental, as usual, and we weren’t certain at first if we would be able to do the portraits outdoors. Thankfully, the sky cleared up and the sun came out just in time.

Meredith and Daniel agreed to take their portraits before the ceremony. As photographers we love this new trend because we are able to spend more time with the couple seeking the best shots. We often photograph some of what we consider to be our strongest work in these scenarios, and this wedding was no exception.

Frost Chapel, Berry College, Rome GA:

For the evening portion of the shoot we followed our couple to the Café Intermezzo on Carnegie Way in downtown Atlanta. This setting provided a nice intimate feel to the portraits. Calvin and Jennifer look forward to their wedding in Charlotte, NC this October.

Our bride prepared for her nuptials at the St. Regis Atlanta before heading to the house for the ceremony, and finally, the Atlanta History Center’s Grand Overlook Ballroom for the reception. There was a definite element of excitement during the proceedings as there seemed to be a summer storm brewing the entire ceremony. Aside from a few strong gusts of wind, however, the storm kept to the sky; and at the end, the clouds parted ways and gave us some nice light for our portraits.

We took this portrait in front of the Roswell Cultural Arts Center because this is the location where Graham made his proposal to Andrea at a Christmas concert he was performing at last year. They shared with us how he invited her on stage for a slow dance before proposing to her in front of 200 people: her acceptance received a standing ovation!
