Winter Romance in Roswell

The end of 2011 was very friendly to outdoor portrait photographers in Atlanta with so many warm days and beautiful light. We could still comfortably photograph outdoors in November and December.

Stephanie and Jim hired our studio only for engagement portraits while still working on their wedding plans. We met on a nice December Sunday morning in downtown Roswell and then in the park near Roswell Mill.

Pinal and Keval

Our studio has been given an honor of photographing a large Indian wedding of Pinal and Keval that will be held in spring of 2012 in Los Angeles area, California. We had been planning their pre-wedding portrait session for months to get the best possible natural backgrounds and lighting, and to coordinate with the couple’s busy schedule.

In Georgia, the best colors for outdoor portrait sessions are usually in last few days of October and first ten days of November. We all were pretty impressed with what Mother Nature had ready for us at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithuania, GA, on November 10, 2011:

Engagement Portraits Piedmont Park

Calvin and Jennifer’s portraits were taken at our most famous setting for engagement portraits in Atlanta: Piedmont Park. The weather on this day was ideal for a shoot, and we made sure to take them to all of our favorite locations in the park.

For the evening portion of the shoot we followed our couple to the Café Intermezzo on Carnegie Way in downtown Atlanta. This setting provided a nice intimate feel to the portraits. Calvin and Jennifer look forward to their wedding in Charlotte, NC this October.

Engagement Portraits in Roswell

For Andrea and Graham’s engagement, we met at what is possibly the most popular spot for photography in metro Atlanta: the Roswell Mill. In the fall, the park is swarming with photographers shooting everything from engagement portraits to families and children. It is less busy in the summer as it is located in a valley and becomes quite hot due to lack of ventilation. Even so, it is one of the most romantic locations and never fails to produce nice lighting and interesting backdrops for a shoot.

We took this portrait in front of the Roswell Cultural Arts Center because this is the location where Graham made his proposal to Andrea at a Christmas concert he was performing at last year. They shared with us how he invited her on stage for a slow dance before proposing to her in front of 200 people: her acceptance received a standing ovation!

Engagement Portraits in Kennesaw

The engagement session of Jennifer and Kirt was photographed primarily at a new location for us: Legacy Park in Kennesaw. Legacy Park is a residential community park consisting of 117 acres surrounded by neighborhoods on all sides, and is only accessible to residents of the community. The park is very important to our couple, as they spend a great deal of time there with their dogs, Baker and Copper.

Something that we enjoyed about this session was photographing in a new environment for us that also had a special meaning for our couple. We feel that it is possible to capture nice portraits in almost any environment if there is good light. Our photography is heavily based on using natural directional light, and if quality light is present—as it is in many outdoor scenarios—that will help us to get interesting engagement pictures.

We are always happy when a couple asks us if are into something special. Nicole and Morgan told us about Morgan’s long time dream of having their engagement portraits taken with a vintage car. Morgan took an initiative and found a kind farm owner in Madison, GA, who let us use their old GMC as well as their beautiful property. We spent a nice afternoon playing with several different concepts and are happy to share our favorites from the session.

We felt an instant connection with our future bride Yolanda on this pleasant March evening. Yolanda and Nate’s portraits were set at an abandoned property in Acworth we have been curious to explore. They were so at ease it felt at times like we were dealing with professional models. We wrapped the session in downtown Acworth, and left our couple to their Friday evening dinner plans.

We were honored to be chosen to photograph a wedding of a couple whose love has persevered despite the fact that one lives in Atlanta and the other in Jamaica. For their engagement portrait session, we met in Sandy Springs at a new city park called Morgan Falls Overlook Park. It was recommended by the couple, and it happened to be our first engagement portrait session at this place. We will definitely be back for future outdoor photo shoots. The park provides a nice variety of backdrops including a lake and would look lovely in any season, even winter.

We met Ashley and Jeff, one of our 2011 couples, for the first time at a wedding in October 2009, where Ashley was a bridesmaid. About seven months later, we met with them for the second time in Athens, GA, for their engagement portrait session. It was a nice mid-May evening with the ideal setting for portraits – such wonderful lighting and very temperate weather. We really loved hanging out with Ashley and Jeff. What a great couple…
